Expel MAHS Students Who Racially Harassed Black Students!
The Issue
We are calling for the students at MAHS who targeted and harassed black students to be EXPELLED!
Recently, a brave young woman spoke up about the racial injustice at McNair Academic High School in Jersey City, NJ. The most notable injustice involved an app called "whip" that allows people to pretend to whip black slaves. Though using this app is bad enough, it was reported that some students followed black students around using this app and pretending to whip them.
Dr. Norma Fernanadez (nfernandez2@jcboe.org) reported that she is interested in knowing if this was a private conversation among friends, or if this is how the students really feel. She also stated that she is interested in knowing what has been lacking in their educational system to lead to this moment.

We want Dr, Fernandez, The Jersey City Board of Education, and McNair Academic High School's principal to know that this IS a hate crime. Slavery is covered in history in Jersey City Public Schools in elementary school, middle school, and high school. The students in MAHS have an understanding of the torture that black people endured during slavery and CHOSE to participate in this behavior anyway. I believe that they were fully aware of the damage it would do, particularly at a time where we are mourning the murders of unarmed Black Americans like Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.
Former and current students are demanding that these students are EXPELLED. They have purposely TARGETED AND HARASSED Black descendants of slaves and no amount of racial, diversity, or sensitivity training can make up for the damage they KNOWINGLY caused.
