Recently Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University, which is a well known Christian school affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, made inflammatory comments directed to his student body, that encouraged them to arm themselves so that they could be prepared to shoot and kill radical Islamic terrorists. These comments stand in direct contradiction to the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Gospels, which calls upon us to radically love and pray for those who would make themselves our enemies. As a visible Christian leader, who is responsible for helping shape the hearts and minds of those who attend Liberty University, and equipping the student body there with a historical Christian worldview, Jerry Falwell's comments are egregious, and stand in stark contrast to the Gospel and its message. In betraying the clear teachings of Jesus, Jerry Falwell has made himself spiritually and intellectually unfit to continue on in his role as the president and chancellor of Liberty University. As such, this petition exists to call upon Jerry Falwell Jr to resign as the leader of Liberty University.
