Defend Modern Languages at University of Nottingham

The Issue

The University of Nottingham has proposed severe cuts to staffing in the School of Cultures Languages and Area Studies (CLAS) at the University of Nottingham, as a result of a Portfolio Review in the Faculty of Arts. The Review proposes a savage reduction in staffing levels in CLAS. The department of German - currently staffed with 13.3 staff - is required to lose four staff, a figure that is bound to result in compulsory redundancies. Russian & Slavonic Studies have been asked to lose three staff; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, two staff. French lost five staff over the last two years without replacement.

Please add your voice to the campaign to protect Nottingham's School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies as a national beacon for modern languages teaching and research.
