Today on Spring Hill Rd, Crookes, Sheffield, four trucks, chippers and crews showed up not long after 8:00 a.m. Their object: to chainsaw 11 of the 20 healthy street on this residential street; they faced four tenacious women tree campaigners from across the city, Sheffield’s best known tree campaigner CP (from tree heaven - Nether Edge) and a very young baby in a pushchair. And we won. Sheffield University students who live on the road let us stand in their garden; within 45 minutes, the four crews zoomed off in search of easier and unguarded trees to pulverise.
