Jeremy Corbyn, condemn abuse of Sadiq Khan

Jeremy Corbyn, condemn abuse of Sadiq Khan

The Issue

On Sunday, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan was booed at a Jeremy Corbyn rally in North London. Sadiq is a Labour success story: he grew up on a council estate and became the first Muslim mayor of a major European city. He faced appalling abuse from the Tories during the Mayoral campaign and on Sunday - because he came out in favour of Owen Smith in Labour’s leadership election - was booed by Corbyn’s supporters.

As Labour Party supporters and members, we think it is a disgrace for the most senior Labour figure in London - and the most popular Labour politician in the country - to be treated in this way, and we call on Jeremy Corbyn to publicly condemn this abuse and to outline in detail how he intends to prevent further breaches of the code of conduct by his supporters.

Saving LabourPetition StarterWe are concerned citizens, Labour voters, loyal Labour members and trade unionists looking for strong leadership in uncertain times. Leaving the EU was a taste of things to come. The 21st century will be one of rapid change, and it is clear that Labour needs more effective leadership and new, radical policies to deal with this landscape and the challenges it brings. It is time to act: to discuss and identify the direction that we want for Labour and for Britain. That is what Saving Labour stands for.
