Limit the Advertising of Cannabis Products Outside of a Dispensary

Today in Oregon advertising of cannabis products is allowed everywhere, and kids are being exposed to these products at an early age. The advertising of cannabis products must be controlled such as is done with cigarettes.
Advertising for cannabis products is present throughout our community and children are seeing it. Cigarettes have been legal for much longer and have strict laws regarding their advertising. Similar laws should be enacted to regulate the advertising of cannabis products. Controlling marketing like this is not a violation of the First Amendment. In a 1942 ruling, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that "the Constitution imposes no... restraint on government as respects purely commercial advertising." (Valentine v. Christensen)
In a 2014 study, by Northwestern Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard School of Medicine published in The Journal of Neuroscience, "[Cannabis] use is increasing among adolescents and young adults (Henry et al., 2003), partially due to society's changing beliefs about cannabis use and its legal status."
With frequent advertising, kids think it is okay to use cannabis. THIS MUST STOP. Cannabis products should have their advertising controlled in the same manner as cigarettes. Tell Oregon lawmakers to regulate the advertising of cannabis products.
