We believe too many people are sent to jail when it comes to non-violent marijuana crimes.  According to American Civil Liberties Union, 88% of people arrested for marijuana related crimes are arrested for the mere possession of the substance. It is estimated that the states waste around $3.6 billion dollars trying to enforce marijuana laws every year. We want to pass bill SB-1747, which would put marijuana under similar regulations and taxation laws as alcohol.

There needs to be change. When an individual is arrested because of marijuana possession they now have a criminal record for a crime that is minuscule. This prevents the individual from using public resources, applying to certain jobs opportunities, and public funding. This is a harsh punishment for a non-violent crime.

By supporting this petition to pass bill SB-1747 the government will be able to invest their money on more important issues such as public healthcare and education.  Please help us gain support for the legalization of marijuana. You will not only help create a safer environment by decreasing crime rates in the war against drugs, but you will also create job opportunities for hemp production.
