Fellow Concerned Students, I’d like to start this update by thanking everyone who supported us at the board meeting last Monday, we were able to give our message clearly and effectively. All the students, parents, and community members who stood with us are the reason we can continue. I’d also like to thank all of you who signed this petition once again, we wouldn’t be where we are right now without the over 400 of you. Backtracking for a second to Monday, after all the ruckus that was caused by public comment, Mrs. Ward continued her crusade against a non-political, balanced education. She attacked two more sources in a recent blog post (Link: http://ward4schoolboard.blogspot.com/2016/05/why-curriculum-matters-take-2-do-you.html ), one of them being the highly credible Encyclopedia Britannica, which she accused of “selling abortion to our children” in its definition of the word. She called the definition, edited by medical professionals, Ivy League graduates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and a Nobel Laureate, “Propaganda and not medical fact” which serves a good reminder of why we are doing this. We will continue to monitor how Mrs. Ward represents the students of U-46. On a final note, Mr. John Heiderscheidt, U-46 Director of School Safety and Culture, recently put out a request for public comment on the new student code of conduct (Link: http://www.u46cac.org/safety-security-coc/ ). There are no major changes, but I figured sharing it with a group of several hundred concerned students would do no harm, after all we have a stake in this district and do more than simply complaining about misrepresentation on our board.
