Orca Network & the Langley Whale Center asks everyone to take a few moments to stop and meditate, pray, sing, or whatever you are moved to do, at 6 pm Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Wednesday, August 8th, joining our hearts to send love and strength to the Southern Resident Orcas. If you are near the water, go to the water's edge, and if so moved make an offering such as a cedar sprig or flower.

The endangered Southern Resident orcas are at their lowest population in decades, and the past weeks have been heartbreaking. The world has watched as J35, Tahlequah, holds on to her newborn, deceased calf for over 10 days; and as J50, Scarlet, struggles with her health. Those of us in the Pacific Northwest who know and love these orcas like family have been feeling the grief.
We are doing this as part of our annual Penn Cove orca capture anniversary commemoration on Whidbey Island. As we grieve for the orcas captured and killed in the captures, we also grieve for the orcas today who need more salmon to survive. We hope that by joining together to meditate, knowing there are many of us around the world who care, we will find strength to carry on and do whatever we can to save this precious Orca community.
Acting decisively together NOW is our only chance to save our Southern Resident Orcas and restore the Salish Sea. YEHOW!
