Firearms are the second leading cause of death in children in the United States. Safe storage laws would mandate that firearms be stored in locked safes with ammunition unloaded and safety locks on. This ensures that weapons are stored properly. By keeping personal firearms on lock-down when not being used, we can help to make sure that firearms cannot be acquired by those not fit to use them, which otherwise results in serious injury to themselves or others. This will increase general safety for people and children in the house. By signing this petition, you are in favor of building a safer future for all Coloradans.

We are a small group in Lafayette called Public Achievement dealing with gun violence-related issues in the community. Colorado needs regulation over the storage of firearms. In doing so, we hope to reduce the number of casualties, injuries, and trauma caused by the unsafe storage of firearms.

This petition is for people like you. People who want a safer future for themselves, their kids, and future generations. Before any more shootings happen, we are asking for the government to hear our outrage and do something about it. In Colorado, there have already been various shootings and it needs to stop. We want a change to happen now. The lack of a safe storage law in Colorado makes it easy for anyone with a firearm in their house like a young kid or teen to grab it and easily use it which is not something that should happen. By approving safe storage laws we can increase the security of firearms, it will restrict firearm access for people who should not be handling firearms including young kids avoiding future tragedies.
