Colorado State Senate

The Colorado State Senate is the upper chamber of the Colorado General Assembly, the state legislature of Colorado. Consisting of 35 members who are elected to four-year terms, its role is to process legislation originating from the state's House of Representatives or initiated within the Senate itself. Senators represent distinct geographical districts across the state. The Colorado State Senate oversees the state budget, confirms gubernatorial appointees, and has the power to try impeachment cases that derive from the House. Prominent leadership positions within the Senate include the President, Majority Leader, and Minority Leader. The presiding officer is the Lieutenant Governor who only votes in case of a tie. Like all state legislatures in the United States, the Colorado State Senate operates within a bicameral system, serving alongside the Colorado House of Representatives.
