For years, sumo fans of Ichinojō Takashi have fondly nick-named the Mongolian rikishi "Snorlax" after the Pokémon character.

Why do fans sometimes refer to Ichinojō as Snorlax?:
Ichinojō is a "gentle giant", who, during sumo bouts, will often stoically stand his ground, becoming unmovable in the ring. His wrestling opponents each try their signature moves on him, while Ichinojō remains unmoved and still like a mountain. Fans lovingly joke that (like the Pokémon character Snorlax) Ichinojō is taking a nap mid battle and storing up energy for a massive strike on his opponent.

Why should there be a dedicated Snorlax keshō-mawashi for Ichinojō now?:
On October 27, 2021, The Pokémon Company announced they were doing a collaboration sponsorship with the Japanese Sumo Association, which would include having some sumo wrestlers wear Pokémon keshō-mawashi aprons during the opening ceremonies. Since Pokémon keshō-mawashi aprons are already being designed/commissioned, this would be the perfect opportunity to make a Pokémon Snorlax mawashi for Ichinojō.
