Thank you for being one of the first 50 people to sign my petition. That is a milestone itself. But, we have a long way to go.
Please take a moment and share this petition with others — it’s the only way we will succeed. The power behind change.org is not one person, it is the exponential reach that comes when each of us shares a petition with those in our life.
That’s why I am asking you to send this petition to at least 10 people today.
To help, below I talk about why a Free Press matters to me. Thank you, Kevin
This week was an exceptionally difficult one for journalists. Well over 1000 lost their jobs at Gannett (USAToday and local papers across the country), Verizon Media (HuffPost and Yahoo), and BuzzFeed. Whether you read any of those journalists or not, they are people with families and rent and grocery bills like the rest of us. The President’s response was a tweet gloating at the demise of those he slanders as “Fake News”.
The attacks on our Free Press from the White House come at a time when having a truly Free Press has never been more important. From documenting the separation of children from their families at the southern boarder, to exposing political appointees who used their new government positions for their personal gain, to helping women (and men) finally begin to hold those who sexually harassed or abused them accountable, our the reporting of our Free Press has changed the course of history in the last two years — and there is nothing fake about it.
Thank you
