A pregnant wild elephant in Kerala's Malapppuram fell victim to an act of extreme human cruelty after a pineapple filled with powerful crackers offered by a man exploded in her mouth when she chomped on it. The post-mortem revealed that the pachyderm was pregnant.

She trusted everyone around her. When the pineapple she ate exploded, she must have been shocked not thinking about herself, but about the child she was going to give birth to in 18 to 20 months," said forest officer Mohan Krishnan, who was part of the Rapid Response Team to rescue the elephant.
