Stop Another Jamison Two Tower Luxury Development in Koreatown, LA!

The Issue

Since May 14, 2020, Jamison has filed up to 7 Continuances! Their reasoning? They claim to want to work with stakeholders! BTW, we have yet to hear from them. Now they have been pushed out til June 8, 2021.

2 appeals have been filed asking for an Environmental Impact Report to be done. The project has been around since 2016 is woefully out of date in terms of design, safety measures, affordable housing and environmental concerns.

Here's what we're doing and we need your help!!

  • WE NEED COMMENTS OF OPPOSITION! Submit Public Comment before February 4, 2021! COUNCIL FILE #20-0894 https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/
  • Email your local representative for CD10 Mark Ridley-Thomas, urging him to support a proper EIR (Environmental Impact Report) councilmember.ridley-thomas@lacity.org, daniel.park@lacity.org, hakeem.parke-davis@lacity.org, Karly.katona@lacity.org
  • A letter to the DA was sent regarding Brown Act Violations at the last City Planning Commission Meeting. (Still following up on this since it's a new administration.)
  • We have a new, more progressive Neighborhood Council! WCKNC wants to get things done! Come to our Planning and Land Use, Homelessness, Sustainability Meetings and help us make a difference.
  • WCKNC Board has recently sent letters of opposition for 4 of Jamison's proposed development projects on Wilshire, Mariposa and Kingsley.
  • We are fiercely fighting for more park space vs the 100+ Construction projects happening in Ktown right now!
  • Emails from WCKNC and stakeholders for Jamison to come to a Town Hall meeting to discuss security and health safety issues on their existing properties including this parking lot at 3440 Wilshire Blvd. (still no word)

Join us in protecting our precious historic Normandie Mariposa Historic  Neighborhood! We are fighting to stop Jamison Properties from constructing yet another Two Tower Luxury High Rise development in Koreatown between Mariposa and Irolo, 7th and Wilshire replacing the existing three-story parking lot next to the LAUSD’s Robert F Kennedy Community Schools.

Construction of these 28 and 22 story towers will significantly impact our daily lives, crippling our ability to live healthily and to learn and grow in a safe environment over a period of at least four years (2022-2026)! After which, we will be left with a glass and steel monstrosity which reflects and respects nothing about Koreatown as it was or is. Its creation comes at the expense of our health, livelihoods and collective, diverse cultural identity - not to mention PARKING!

NO AFFORDABLE LOW INCOME HOUSING!

As of now, only 5% of the units are slated for Moderate Income Housing based on LA County Numbers which are twice as high as Ktown! (The median income in KTOWN is $36k a year.) In May 2020, Jamison conceded to an additional 5% low-income housing, which was offered only in-meeting, contingent upon the CPC’s immediate approval of the development. Koreatown already has enough unaffordable housing that remains unoccupied! (over 100,000 units) And anyone who has lived or parked in a Jamison Property will testify that there is a lack of proper maintenance creating unclean, unhealthy and unsafe conditions once the projects are completed!

LOSS OF NEIGHBORHOOD PARKING!

The 1,921 parking spaces are slotted for residential and commercial use and 1,840 residential/commercial bicycle parking spaces. there is no explicit mention of providing or maintaining monthly parking for the surrounding neighborhood during or after this four year process which could put many of our jobs at risk.

We are demanding that the City Planning Committee of Los Angeles to require an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) or deny Jamison the zoning approval needed to allow this and other projects like it to go through. If Jamison is allowed to proceed, these two looming, soulless towers might as well be middle fingers proudly displayed to show how much they really care about solving the homeless problem. And demonstrates how much Los Angeles truly values its diverse cultures, architectural heritage, collective memory and how residents and visitors experience our unique and rare historic community.

Help us build a better Koreatown for all by joining us in saying “NO!”
