After numerous emails to the CEO & JLR head office, we are still no further forward. JLR claim that the vehicle passes regulation 79 UNECE in regards to steering due to the fact that the steering wheel can be turned albeit it will require more effort and also that a warning light comes up alerting the driver that there is a problem. However I have heard from numerous people who have experienced this fault that they loose all steering, the steering wheel will not turn and there is no warning on the dash at all. This is evident via a number of videos in our Facebook group. These 2 points show that the vehicle does not comply with the regulation, as a warning needs to be displayed and the steering wheel needs to turn. The reason why the steering won’t turn we have found is due to the belt becoming chewed up by the motor and seizing the steering rack itself. This explanation is from a mechanic who has viewed the problem. We have since found out that not only did Tesla recall in the U.K. but so did Mercedes and BMW, who used the same bolts that experienced the same problem. JLR are the only ones left to take some action In the U.K. and they will not budge on their standing. They have claimed that the cost of repair is down to the owner, even though before BMW recalled, they applied an extra 10 year warranty on the steering rack so that there was a blanket free fix for all regardless of original warranty. They eventually recalled. There has been an increase in 100% goodwill from JLR recently if owners communicate their knowledge of this defect. It seems your chances are heightened with getting a free repair the more you know. Which isn’t acceptable. Most owners are waiting in excess of 3 weeks before their vehicle is even looked at and JLR want the diagnosis cost and your car before they will even apply for the goodwill gesture. So customers do not know whether they will get a free fix when they present their vehicle to a dealership with this fault.  This is not acceptable and we are continuously trying to change this via writing to the media and spreading awareness through this petition and a Facebook group called - Evoque & Disco Sport steering rack/EPAS failure advice & recall campaign. If you would like to get involved or need advice if this has happened to you, Please search for the above group on Facebook. I hope I can give a more positive update soon.

we want a recall or at the very least a blanket free fix for all policy!!
