I, Gayleen Mackereth, have received the final report from the Petitions Committee regarding our petition to make English an Official Language in this country.
The report noted that English is widely used in NZ and that "The Coalition agreement between the New Zealand National Party and the New Zealand First Party commits the Government to legislating to make English and Official Language in New Zealand and we trust this will address the Petitioner's concerns"
However, we have seen no progress on this matter and it is time to remind the Government that 12,448 people who signed the petition cannot be ignored.
I spoke to Simeon Brown who told us that "Parliament is considering the Petition to make English an Official Language"
Please, Please write to the Members of Parliament URGENTLY to focus their attention by expressing your concerns. It only takes a minute to write a short note to the M.P.s below saying that you signed the petition on good faith and that you have been waiting for English to be made an Official Language of New Zealand but see no progress in this matter and this will influence your vote at the next election. You believe strongly that English must be acknowledged as one of the official languages of New Zealand and given legal status to ensure that English will continue to be used in all official transactions and interactions. You should adapt this and add thoughts of your own on the need for English to have official recognition.
