I just had this in from Parliament . I felt the response was rather weak and disappointing as I began the petition  more than 3 years before this government came to power.

The Petitions Committee response to Petition of Gayleen Mackereth:

Make English an official language of New Zealand

The Petitions Committee has considered the petition of Gayleen Mackereth, which was presented on 5 November 2024. The petition requests:
That the House of Representatives make English language an official language of New Zealand; and note that 12,320 people have signed a similar online petition.
The petitioner made a written submission expressing her view that English should take its place alongside Te Reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language as an official language of New Zealand. We note that English is a de facto official language in New Zealand, because of its widespread use. It can already be used in all public settings.
The coalition agreement between the New Zealand National Party and the New Zealand
First Party commits the Government to legislating to make English an official language of
New Zealand.1 We trust this will address the petitioner’s concerns.
