Little by little, day by day Maori is supplanting English in everyday contexts. This is legitimate, as Maori is an official language of New Zealand, ENGLISH IS NOT AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IN THIS COUNTRY~!!!

IF YOU WANT TO SEE ENGLISH REMAIN AS A MAJOR LANGUAGE IN NEW ZEALAND YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS NEED TO SIGN THIS PETITION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Te Wai Pounamu and Te Ika a Maui are both OFFICIAL NAMES (approved 2013) of the North and South Islands. The English terms are now being dropped from Weather forecasts on TV, as you may have noticed.

In Education already, Maori is being increasingly interwoven into "Eduspeak" at every level eg --"I am delighted by the fact that more and more kaiako are ready, willing and able to listen to tamariki and rangatahi about what really matters to them" (taken from an educational conference today)!

The Labour Party has told us that it expects all citizens to be understanding and speaking a modicum of Maori by 2050!
