In order to keep up registration as a teacher, teachers henceforth will have to prove proof that each year they have made increasing progress in the learning of Maori and can be certified as such.

We hear that people working in vehicle certification  providing trucks with a Certificate of Fitness need to be able to speak Maori too to keep their job in the next few years.

At the same time, the use of untranslated Maori continues in English sentences

Headlines25/2/21 "Auckland's Harbour Bridge can't take any more,,,Waka Kotahi* says that the  bridge has bee previously strengthened but it is not possible to do it again."

* Five paragraphs later we find  -Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport  Agency .(no commas to suggest these are one and the same !)

English must be recognised as equal and an Official Language
