Gyms are Essential - Illinois

Gyms are Essential - Illinois
The Issue
I represent one of the hundreds of life-saving and critical CrossFit® Affiliates and boutique gyms of Illinois and today I write to you in an urgent time for our state and nation’s health.
CrossFit Affiliates and boutique gyms across the state are closed down and deemed "Non essential". We are adamantly against this denotation.
As a CrossFit Affiliate and boutique gym, we are ferociously committed to providing professional, ethical, small group and personal training to people in our community.
As health and fitness professionals as well as small business owners, we want to make sure that when we begin our work again, we do so in a way that protects the health and safety of our members and community.
We have developed guidelines that we think are best practices and standards for the fitness industry to reopen and operate safely and effectively. Our guidelines follow applicable guidelines set forth by the CDC, OSHA, IDPH, and other regulatory agencies. They are evolving and will be revised. In short - minimizing the number members allowed in the gym, cleaning equipment and common surfaces after each class, and continuing to ask that our members/coaches practice good hygiene and stay home if not feeling well.
We implore you to consider our voice to re-open and operate as an essential business that protects against the very thing we’re being prevented from doing-making our communities safer.
It is proven that people are in a better position to prevent disease complications if they lead a healthy lifestyle. We help people lead healthy lifestyles.
