End The X Factor

The Issue

The X Factor. Everyone complains about it yet everyone still watches it. Why? It makes no sense.

The X Factor is a way of cheating yourself to fame. People who go on the show want fame but can't be bothered to work for it. Look at people such as Ed Sheeran. He got his fame through hard work, making pennies, touring the country and sleeping on sofas. He never lost his belief in himself and all his hard work paid off. THAT is how you earn musical fame. Some people might say "perhaps they did all that and this is their last resort!" Well hold on. Why do they need fame? What happened to playing music for the sake of playing music? Getting the joy of doing it for yourself, with no expectations on your head and nothing to weigh you down! I believe it's time to end this stain of British television. They dominate the Christmas charts every year with horrendous songs (or horrendous covers of songs) but as 2009 showed, it can be undone. On top of that, it humiliates the untalented and many of those who get through have a sob story to sympathise with. I'm pretty certain that loads of talented singers go on there, only to be rejected because of their "uninteresting" background. Steve Hughes puts it best in the linked video, and just listen to the support he gets from the crowd. Just look at all the criticism from artists within the industry too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversy_and_criticism_of_The_X_Factor_(UK)#Impact_on_the_music_industry

X Factor - you've had your time. It's time to stop the "artists" achieving undeserved fame. Please sign this petition to help end The X Factor and hopefully put some quality back into the music industry.
