The Issue

*Please know I am not asking for donations*

On Friday Oct. 18, 2024 my dog was hit and killed by a speeding vehicle on Highpoint Avenue. I watched it happen and the driver did not stop. I watched him drive away.

I have lived here since 2008 and over the last few years more and more families are moving to this area.

I sit by the side of the road and watch not only personal vehicles but city buses blow down this street with speeds in excess of 60 kms an hour.

Drivers are using Highpoint as a through road to get to to Tollgate and Bearinger/Westmount and going much faster then the speed limit. In fact. I do not believe there is a posted speed limit sign on Highpoint at all.

Kids are playing basketball and hockey in their driveways and riding their bikes up and down the sidewalk.  In addition, we have serval schools in our area where children play, get off buses, use cross walks.

It's only a matter of time before someone's child gets hurt. I am asking for your support in signing a petition in order to raise awareness and hasten the possibility of some speed enforcement in our neighborhood.

I have the ear of a local council member who encouraged me to start a petition to see of we can get something in place sooner than later.  We are hoping to have a speed and enforcement study happen in the area soon.

See my recent post in Lakeshore North for more information around my recent post and information about upcoming speed enforcement implementation and timing and the effects of high speed impact accidents.
