Governments may soon agree to start drafting a UN convention!

Since our last update on 1st October, International Day of Older Persons, we understand that governments may soon decide to start drafting a new United Nations (UN) convention on the human rights of older people.  

A UN resolution setting up a drafting process for a new convention could be agreed upon as soon as March 2025, at the next Human Rights Council meeting.

This would be a momentous step forward and a huge boost to our advocacy for older people’s rights around the world. Thank you so much for backing our campaign and helping us reach this point!

In a public statement on Human Rights Day, 10th December, we invited everyone to join our online conversation about what we want our own older age to be like. We also urged advocates worldwide to support our call in the coming weeks for governments to begin the drafting of a new UN convention.
