Breaking news today:
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today announced that should she be re-elected, her Labor government would move to legalise voluntary-assisted dying. Making the major announcement at Labor’s campaign launch at Beenleigh, Ms Palaszczuk said all of her MPs would be given a conscience vote on the issue, which she referred to the Queensland Law Reform Commission this year. “I believe individuals and families should be empowered to consider all the options available in consultation with their medical professionals,” she said.
“That’s why today I can commit that the government I lead will introduce legislation in February next year to provide for the legalisation of voluntary assisted dying.”
The Qld End of Life Choices Inquiry was instigated by the Labor Party and we have all known that the only hope of this seeing the light of day would be to see the ALP regain power. They have a Party Policy for what we call "VAD" (Voluntary Assisted Dying). The Greens also have a Party Policy supporting VAD. I should add personally I am not aligned with any Political Party but my vote will go to whoever is going to progress this important human right.
So, now, for Qld, the progress of VAD needs an ALP government to regain power. If ALP is not your party of choice then consider The Greens. The LNP oppose and to date have continued to remain silent. It's important to remember that Annastascia Palaszczuk said she will allow her all ALP Members a conscience vote so even within the ALP, it's important to know how your local ALP candidate is positioned on a conscience vote re VAD. Alternatively a Greens' candidate could also be canvassed.
Thank you so much for your support. All our efforts have helped get us this far!!!
