As Qld gets closer to the State Election, many Voluntary Assisted Dying advocates and supporters in our community have emphasised the importance of legislation in Qld so that our terminally have the same rights as Victorians, Western Australians and, hopefully soon, Tasmanians.

Like all of the previous states, religion seeks to influence in a major way.  This week The Australian reported that the Mater Health group have indicated it would not allow voluntary assisted dying to be practised in any of their health care facilities.  Yesterday saw the Southern Cross Aged Care operator threaten to "quit" if legislation was introduced.

We should remember that these are organisations that are funded by the government!  It really isn't fair for those who live with the traumatic experience of nursing a loved one through cruel end of life suffering, or those for whom this legislation would bring much peace of mind (the terminally ill) should have that right taken away from them because of religion or, as the Chair of the Qld End of Life Choices Inquiry stated last week, by politics.

So be careful who you vote for Queenslanders.
