Issue physical intermediate licenses in Kentucky

Issue physical intermediate licenses in Kentucky
The Issue
When I first passed my Kentucky driving skills test, I was thrilled to advance from an instructional permit holder to an intermediate license holder. However, an unexpected obstacle arose. Instead of a physical intermediate license, I only received an orange "Intermediate License" sticker on my permit. This might seem adequate, but in reality, it poses significant challenges for those like me trying to work with delivery companies such as Uber Eats or DoorDash.
Most delivery services require their drivers to submit a photograph of their driver's license. Unfortunately, despite having the orange sticker, my permit still reads "Instruction Permit" at the top, leading these applications to automatically deny me. Simply put, the sticker alone is not enough to validate my eligibility, unfairly blocking access to crucial work opportunities.
This issue does not only impact me but affects countless Kentuckians who rely on these gigs for additional income. With the rise in popularity of delivery apps, more individuals are seeking flexible work options. Gig economy platforms like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash provide legitimate employment chances that are being denied due to a mere technicality in licensing.
A simple solution could rectify this issue: replace the sticker with an actual physical intermediate driver's license. This would align the identification we're required to submit with the licensing phase we've rightfully earned, eliminating unnecessary barriers to work.
Kentucky's licensing system must recognize the evolving nature of employment and the gig economy's valuable contribution to income. Implementing a change to provide a tangible intermediate license respects our progress and facilitates fair access to opportunities.
Please join me in urging the Kentucky Department of Driver Licensing to re-evaluate their current licensing procedure and issue physical intermediate licenses. Your support can help open doors for many who are seeking to earn a living and support their families. Sign this petition and empower Kentuckians, including myself, to access vital employment opportunities without unfair obstacles.
