The issue

Help local residents park near their homes while keeping train commuter parking restrictions in place.

To Wyndham City Council and the Victorian Government

We support the introduction of 2P parking restrictions around West Tarneit Station to manage increased demand for street parking from commuters.

However, local residents should not be disadvantaged by these restrictions.

Many households in Tarneit have two cars because of work, family and daily transport needs. For families where one person commutes to the city and the other needs access to the garage during the day, it is not always practical to park both vehicles in the driveway or garage and repeatedly move vehicles around.

For example, a resident may need to leave one vehicle on the street while the other vehicle remains accessible in the garage. Under the current 2P restrictions, residents can effectively be treated in the same way as commuters who leave their cars near the station.

What we are asking for
We are calling on Wyndham City Council and the relevant authorities to introduce a resident parking permit schemefor streets affected by the new 2P restrictions around West Tarneit Station.

A resident permit could:

  • Allow eligible residents to park their registered vehicles beyond the 2-hour limit.
  • Be linked to the resident’s address and vehicle registration.
  • Prioritise genuine local residents rather than commuters.
  • Help prevent station commuters from occupying residential street parking for extended periods.
  • Allow Council to continue managing parking demand around West Tarneit Station without creating unnecessary hardship for residents.
  • Include reasonable limits or eligibility requirements to prevent abuse of the permit system

We are NOT asking for the 2P restrictions to be removed.

We understand why parking restrictions have been introduced. The opening of West Tarneit Station has increased demand for parking, and managing commuter parking is important for the local community.

Our request is simple: local residents should have a mechanism to park near their own homes when they have legitimate household parking needs.

A resident parking permit system would provide a more balanced approach — discouraging long-term commuter parking while recognising the practical needs of families who live in the affected streets.

Please support this petition: If you live in Tarneit, particularly in the residential areas surrounding West Tarneit Station, please sign this petition and ask Council to consider a resident parking permit scheme for households affected by the 2P restrictions.

Our message is simple: manage commuter parking, but don’t penalise the residents who live here.
