The High Court ruling in favour of Coleen Rooney in the 2022 Wagatha Christie trial was a landmark reminder that online anonymity does not remove legal responsibility.
- Private posts were traced.
- Evidence was presented.
- The court ruled.
The lesson? Digital behaviour has consequences.
Yet in Ireland, unregulated online spaces continue to allow misinformation, anonymous allegations and reputational harm - particularly within women’s health communities.
At the same time, women are still facing delays in diagnosis, lack of specialist multidisciplinary teams, and no National Inquiry into Endometriosis care.
Accountability must apply everywhere.
We are calling for:
• A National Inquiry into Endometriosis care
• An expert-led Irish framework
• Multidisciplinary specialist access
• Responsible digital platform moderation
