Thank you to Senator Phil Boyle, Jaeger's Run Animal Rescue Inc., and everyone who attended our vigil for the more than 200 geese, including babies, who were cruelly rounded up and slaughtered by contract killers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) deceptively named Wildlife Services department at Islip Public Schools last Thursday, July 1.
Kind people are rightly horrified that their hard-earned tax-dollars, meant for education, have been paying federal contract killers to massacre hundreds of of gentle, vulnerable geese in district-sanctioned killings year after year and LION is committed to ensuring this never happens again.
Please join us tonight at the Annual Islip Board of Education Meeting at Islip High School to speak directly to those who voted to employ the USDA and urge them to ensure this never happens again. LION has already garnered a commitment from Islip Superintendent Dennis O'Hara to place a moratorium on employing the USDA to kill geese on school properties as the district works with LION on a humane, nonlethal management plan moving forward.
The FBI, medical professionals, the police department have all well documented the link between animal abuse and human violence, so it is critical that we teach our children to coexist with wildlife and only pursue humane, nonlethal methods of geese management, such as birth control and chemical repellents.
Location: We will meet at the front of the Islip High School building at 2508 Union Blvd, Islip, NY 11751 at 5:30pm tonight and attend the 6pm meeting in the school auditorium at 6pm.
