We wanted to let everyone know that we've achieved over 100 signatures for this petition, but we need to keep pushing for more.
We know we are beginning to be heard because people are pushing back against us.
They say we are anti-cricket, which we are not. They say we want to stop kid's cricket lessons in our park. We don't. They say all kinds of things, and they do this because they know they have not asked the local community what it needs.
That is all we are fighting for.
The council calls the cricket pavilion it wants to build a multi-use building the community can also use, but its design is based entirely on the needs of cricket, with no dedicated areas for other uses except a non-private space the community can use sometimes.
It doesn't even include a space footballers can store their goals, or spaces community groups can use. But it has an office and three changing rooms for cricket.
We’ve also learned cricket may take place every evening and every weekend day between April to October, peak times when everyone wants to use the park.
Whatever is built here will define our lovely park for 50 years.
We think our community needs more than the vision Islington has.
We have so little green space in Islington, so many of us need it, we think Islington should develop a better plan for everyone.
We continue to appeal for a credible consultation with the local community to identify our needs and the development of new proposals that meet more of our needs, including, but not only, cricket.
With your support we hope to convince Islington to develop a much more imaginative plan that delivers what everyone needs to turn our lovely park into a true community hub for all.
