It was a pilot friend of Maurice's who discovered that there is an Interpol Notice out so that I can be apprehended at any airport in the UK and treated as a terrorist. That's what I have in common now with Maurice, ever since MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection Agreement) was used to have the licence to shoot and kill, since he was supposed to be a terrorist.
I'm a mathematician whose thinking was trained by diagnosing software at CERN, until I got bored, had a serious car accident causing chronic pain since 1973 and re-inventing myself all the time. Is that maybe a prerequisite for being treated as a terrorist?
I phoned Maurice [his IQ was found to be in the top 3% of the population while he was incarcerated at Caswell Clinic] after I got an email from his sister with a new phone number from him.
His release - 15 days after his 70th birthday - had been delayed until 10.50am so that his 'welcome committee' had left. He was left on his own in a wheelchair and couldn't phone them from inside...
Instead of being driven to the 17 meetings he had carefully lined up starting with a hospital appointment, he had to look for sympathetic taxi drivers, arrived at a closed government office around 5pm but was in good spirits, while telling me about all the packs of lies he had been exposed to, particularly relating to the non-treatment of his medical conditions.
Once again he repeated: you don't need to be a hero, to fight back after they've taken
* my professional licence to practise as a veterinary surgeon
* my marriage and access to my daughter
* my pilot licenses.
He didn't even mention any of his wealth besides making litigation a way of life... How he has maintained his spirit despite the physical, mental and emotional torture he's gone through is admirable and remarkable forever. But he did have a bottle of whiskey with him when we spoke. He has been inside since 14 October 2013!
His sister writes:
It appears that it was not Maurice's lucky day yesterday. He had hoped to rendez-vous with his local supporter immediately upon release but the screws made sure this did not happen. Of course he required his phone, his laptop, money, ID etc but was only armed with a cronky wheelchair a travel pass (which he had to fight for) and some cash.
On leaving HMP he had difficulty crossing the road, finding a taxi to stop or have the use of a phone. He eventually caught a bus to the local hospital and found a phone to get hold of me. No answer from the supporter's phone or reply to text message but eventually they met up at the Train Station by which time the carefully planned use of the time in Swansea city had been blown apart as M had wanted to make certain visits.
He gave up on that to travel to Cardiff but he missed that deadline too and travelled on to Bristol. Unfortunately his hoped for lift had already departed out of that city on another appointment so a taxi brought him to his destination for the night.
If you want to send him a text or call him, I'm sure he'll be pleased: 07481 533 699.
With many thanks for your support,
Sabine
