The Issue
As of now, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University holds convocation only for selected Ph.D Scholars, Gold Medalist Students and Exemplary Performance students.
It does not hold the convocation or graduation ceremony for rest of the students who have successfully completed the requirement of their programme.
Every student who takes admission into a University hopes that one day, after completion of their Degree, they will be respectfully conferred their "Degree'' in a graduation ceremony or convocation. This hope is destroyed after a student of IP university come to know that no such convocation or ceremony will be held for him/her.
In the year 2016, 148 selected students (Ph.D Scholars, Gold Medalist Students and Exemplary Performance students) were conferred degrees in convocation ceremony.
All of the remaining students were just asked to come to the university office and collect their degrees, they are not conferred degrees in the ceremony.
In 2017, only 130 selected students were conferred degrees in convocation ceremony. Except selected 130 students, remaining students were not given their degrees in a ceremony. (As per the data given on ipu.ac.in)
Many of them have still not been issued their degree in graduation ceremony or otherwise.
As per the NIRF data available on ipu.ac.in, there are approximately 4000-5000 students currently studying in the main campus of IP university. Around 50,000 plus (approx.) students in affiliated colleges of GGSIPU.
There are thousands of students who are not conferred degree in convocation ceremony. This will continue unless you intervene on this issue.
As per UGC regulations on this issue, University has to award the degree within 180 days of the date by which student completes the course programme.
Thus, It is a request to the you to give suitable instructions and organize convocation or graduation ceremony for rest of the students to award them their degrees, who have successfully completed the requirement of their programme.
