INWOOD STOPLIGHTS

The Issue

I was informed that a stoplight at the intersection of INWOOD AND ROGERSWOOD was going to be installed.
This is a 4 million dollar project in district 9- that I feel could better utilized by bringing a right turn lane onto HUEBNER, giving a roundabout into INWOOD HOLLOW OR A TRAFFIC LIGHT- and repairing HUEBNER road. The choice of installing this particular traffic light at our four way stop- will bring so much more frustration to a normally easy commute- both IN and OUT of saturated neighborhoods and those wishing to use BITTERS road to access 1604 or HUEBNER.

I was told that no one cared enough about this project. Hence this petition.

Our neighborhood has existed, with a 4 way STOP SIGN for 30 years, without the need for a  traffic light slowing everyone down, not  just in and out of our neighborhoods- BUT THOSE TRAVELING BETWEEN HUEBNER AND 1604 along BITTERS RD.

The Federal Highway Administration states that traffic signals should only be installed when it promotes the overall efficiency of the traffic system, and should only be recommended after thorough analysis. We see no evidence that such due diligence has been done for our community.

Hence, we urge the relevant authorities to review and change the decision of installing traffic signal lights and to consider the impact it will have on our daily lives. We call upon our fellow neighbors and well-wishers to support this petition and others who have experienced similar disruptions. Stand up with us, your voice can change our commutes for the better. Update From the District 9 City Council Office: The Public Works Department is providing this update to share the latest status of the project and plan forward: Rogers Wood/ Inwood Cove Intersection: This intersection design is being suspended indefinitely to further review traffic data and determine the need and timing of any future signal construction. A traffic signal will not be constructed at this intersection with the current bond program project. The current project will include new flashing four way stop signs at this intersection. Ashton Village/ Cutter Green Intersection: Progress continues for the design of the traffic signal at this intersection and construction of the new traffic signal will move forward after finalizing the design, obtaining the necessary project easements and right of way, and finishing the permit requirements to allow the proposed signals to move to the construction phase. Right Turn Lanes on Bitters Road at Huebner Road and Loop 1604: Progress continues for the design of the right turn lanes. Easement requirements and right of way acquisition, utility relocations and permitting are in the early planning stages. The turn lanes will continue to move forward as funding allows with the priority for construction of the SB Bitters at Huebner turn lane.
