The Issue

Not long ago, my veterinarian recommended Solensia, an anti-NGF arthritis drug developed by Zoetis, for my cat's arthritis pain. Like many conscientious pet owners, I wanted what was best for my pet and I trusted the advice given by my vet. However, before proceeding, I decided to do some research, which led me to uncover disturbing information through communities such as "Solensia Killed My Cat." The sheer number of heart-wrenching testimonies about severe adverse effects, including neurological damage, paralysis, seizures, and even fatalities, compelled me to reconsider. Alarmingly, many pet owners remain unaware of these dangers, continuing to administer these drugs under the mistaken belief that they are safe.

This pressing issue is not isolated to a single product. Alongside Solensia, Zoetis manufactures Librela and has recently introduced Portela—all anti-NGF arthritis drugs. The reports of serious health incidents related to these medications are growing, suggesting a troubling pattern that requires immediate scrutiny. Yet, despite ongoing complaints from numerous pet owners, regulatory response has been disturbingly slow. This lack of timely action places countless pets at risk, turning loving intentions into tragic outcomes.

Canada must urgently re-evaluate these drugs' safety profiles. Health Canada should initiate a thorough investigation into the safety of Solensia, Librela, and Portela, considering suspending their use as a precautionary measure until comprehensive safety evaluations are completed. These investigations should not only include a review of the existing cases of adverse reactions but also proactively engage with affected pet owners and their veterinary care providers to ensure that all potential risks are understood and mitigated.

Moreover, clear and transparent communication channels should be established between veterinarians, pet owners, and regulatory bodies to ensure that all parties are aware of the potential risks these drugs carry. This transparency will empower pet owners to make informed decisions, safeguarding the health and safety of their beloved animals.

By signing this petition, you are urging Health Canada to take decisive action to protect our pets. It is crucial that we hold pharmaceutical companies accountable and demand rigorous oversight of veterinary drugs that may pose undisclosed hazards. Our pets trust us with their lives; let us be their voice in calling for responsible and ethical treatment options. Together, we can advocate for safer veterinary practices and prevent unnecessary suffering and loss. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and protect our pets from potential harm.
