Investigate Wiscasset superintendent's handling of school safety

On May 19, our world was turned upside down when my 14-year-old son Gavin was attacked by an 18-year-old student during his gym class in Wiscasset. This heart-wrenching incident underscored our longstanding fears about the safety issues arising from the present arrangement where both middle and high school students share the same building.
There have been constant warnings from many parents voicing concerns about this unsafe overlap. Yet, despite the shocking and terrifying nature of this attack, the response from Wiscasset's school department has been deeply disappointing. The response from the school's administration, especially the superintendent, has not only been inadequate but dismissive of the serious concerns I have about my son's safety and the safety of other students.
I have been fighting a lonely battle to get answers about what truly happened to my son, and why. I deserve the right to meet with the involved staff and have my questions addressed, but my pleas have been disregarded. The superintendent's assurances that students are safe and that preventive measures are in place have proven to be hollow promises.
There is currently no concrete policy to prevent such incidents, leaving our children exposed to danger. The system that is supposed to protect our children is failing. The superintendent has not only failed in her duty to create a secure environment but also in addressing the aftermath of this traumatic event.
We, as a community, demand an immediate investigation into the superintendent’s handling of this incident and the overall safety policies within the Wiscasset School. Our children deserve a safe learning environment, and it begins with accountability and change at the top. Please sign this petition to urge the necessary authorities to act swiftly and ensure that no other family has to endure what we are going through.
