The Issue

On the morning of July 1st, my dog, Marlie, passed away due to what I firmly believe was the direct result of negligent care, poor communication, lack of attention, and a distressing disregard of urgency by the VCA California Animal Specialists of Carlsbad and Dr Nora, who was in charge of Marlie's care. We were kept waiting for a diagnosis and lab results for two long, agonizing days, a period of time that might have made a grave difference in her condition. They initially believed she could have had liver cancer or inflammation. This infection should have been treated immediately as a precaution, but instead, she underwent a procedure that likely worsened her condition. She suffered and was robbed of a much longer life, and our family was subjected to a trauma no human or animal should ever have to endure. Marlie's story isn't unique. This establishment has a massive history of alleged veterinary negligence and malpractice that has reportedly led to the untimely death of many beloved pets under their "care". The worsening of animal well-being and added financial burden in the form of inflated medical bills are all additional concerns that a multitude of owners have reported.

No one should be made to feel like there was more that could have been done for their beloved pet. It is the job of professionals to adequately and confidently urge pet owners to agree to all the medical means necessary to keep their pet alive and comfortable.

Pets may not be human beings, but they deserve the same kind of urgent and comprehensive medical care, as they go home to a family that values and loves them as one of their own.

Existing standards of animal care indicate the necessity of swift diagnosis and treatment, something Marlie and others were cruelly denied (American Veterinary Medical Association). Therefore, it is imperative that VCA California Animal Specialists of Carlsbad be investigated for these serious allegations. If they are found guilty of such misconduct, they should be immediately shut down & be rehabilitated as a facility to prevent any further avoidable tragedies and to uphold the basic medical ethics of animal treatment.

Our community needs an accessible Emergency Vet Hospital, but we need one that upkeeps the integrity of a veterinary license. One that keeps our babies alive & without suffering.

Join us in signing this petition to demand justice for Marlie and the many others who might have been victims of professional negligence at this center. Protect the rights and lives of our cherished pets by insisting on a thorough investigation and seeking the closure of VCA California Animal Specialists of Carlsbad if found culpable for these accusations.
