Investigate the violent arrest of pregnant U.S. citizen Cary Alvarado by ICE
The Issue
As a parent, I am outraged that a pregnant U.S. citizen was handcuffed, shoved, and detained by federal agents—despite clearly telling them she was nine months pregnant and born in Los Angeles.
Cary López Alvarado, 28, was arrested by immigration agents during a workplace raid in Hawthorne, California. She told officers she was a U.S. citizen. She told them she was due to give birth in a week. Still, they shoved her, handcuffed her, and took her into custody. Hours after being released, she experienced sharp stomach pains and had to be hospitalized.
This is not acceptable. It’s not just about immigration enforcement—it’s about basic dignity, safety, and the rights of American citizens.
López Alvarado was on private property, exercising her right to film and question the agents’ actions, when she was arrested. Videos confirm she was calm, not resisting, and not violent. Yet she was treated with force and disrespect by agents who wrongly questioned her citizenship and ignored her medical condition.
We are calling on the Department of Homeland Security, Congress, and the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to launch a full, independent investigation into the treatment of Cary López Alvarado. Hold the agents involved accountable for endangering a pregnant citizen!
No one should be treated this way—especially not a U.S. citizen just weeks from giving birth.
Please sign this petition if you believe pregnancy and citizenship should guarantee protection—not brutality.
