Petition to open an independent investigation into the deaths of Black North Carolinians found hanging — Juliana Nzita, 16. Javion Magee. Demetrius Fleming. Mario Kaiser Jr. An unnamed 32-year-old man in Raleigh. All ruled suicides within days. Some with no autopsy. No located phone. No interviews with the people who found them.

NC has a history of racial violence by hanging. When it happens again and the state closes the file in 72 hours, families are left with no answers and the public is left with no assurance that Black North Carolinians are safe from racial violence.

AG Jeff Jackson has the power to order independent review and full autopsies. He should use it — now.

I am asking him, directly and without qualification: open this investigation now. Silence from the Attorney General's  office will be read, correctly, as indifference.

Sign and demand answers. These families have waited long enough.
