I have been an active user of the beaches and waterways in Wamberal, NSW, for over 60 years, and what has happened over that time is a joke, a very sad joke. Our beloved beaches and waterways, once pristine and vibrant, are now shadows of their former selves, plagued by issues that could have been avoided with proper management.

In recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in the quality and safety of our coastal environment, leading to negative impacts on both our community and local wildlife. The erosion of our beaches, compounded by rising sea levels and inadequate drainage systems, has resulted in loss of land and recreational spaces cherished by locals and tourists alike. The waterways, too, suffer from pollution and neglect, affecting marine life and reducing the quality of life for residents who rely on these natural resources.

The local council, tasked with managing and protecting these vital natural assets, seems to have fallen short in their responsibilities. With unclear or perhaps misappropriated funding, lack of informed oversight, and possibly ignoring environmental assessments, the situation has continued to deteriorate.

We owe it to future generations to preserve and restore these essential components of our local ecosystem. This is why we are calling for an official investigation into the council's handling of our beaches and waterways.
