The Issue
This isn't just about politics; it's deeply personal. On a beautiful Sunday early morning of 6/1/2025, my 74-year-old father-in-law, a devoted and lifelong resident of Orange, NJ, was recently subjected to the unwarranted harassment by Councilwoman Tency Eason while he was graciously volunteering his time to mow a church lawn next door to her home on a beautiful Sunday morning before Service. In an abuse of her authority, Councilwoman Eason called the police on him after berating him, needlessly involving law enforcement and wasting precious community resources. She didn’t even stay to face what she did. The officer was nice, but also confused as to why the call for a police officer was even made in the first place. That was a waste of much needed resources for real emergencies.
My in-laws have been proud to call Orange their home for over five decades. They have woven themselves into the very fabric of our community, contributing tirelessly to its growth and well-being. Their lives tell the story of resilience and commitment, only to be met with intimidation from an official meant to serve and support our community members.
This incident is not an isolated display of misconduct but a disturbing indication of how power can be misused, jeopardizing the safety and peace of our residents. Orange deserves leaders who exhibit integrity, compassion, and respect for their constituents. Councilwoman Eason’s behavior stands in stark contrast to these values and begs the question of her fitness to hold office.
We are calling for an ethics investigation into Councilwoman Tency Eason’s actions. Such an inquiry should not only scrutinize the specific incident involving my father-in-law but also review her broader conduct in office to ensure that she upholds the ethical standards expected of a public official.
Moreover, this investigation will serve to remind all elected officials of their duty to wield power responsibly and to foster an environment of respect and support for every citizen. It is essential that our community leaders remain accountable, and that incidents of abuse of power are addressed swiftly and decisively.
Join us in this call for transparency and justice. Sign this petition to demand an immediate ethics investigation into Councilwoman Tency Eason’s actions and uphold the values that the City of Orange holds dear. Together, let's ensure that every resident is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
