The Issue

Across the country, communities are grappling with deeply troubling allegations involving Cesar Chavez, a figure long associated with justice and dignity for working people. The Cesar Chavez Foundation and the United Farm Workers have both acknowledged these claims and expressed shock, while also making clear that the full truth is not yet known.

That is exactly why this moment matters.

When serious allegations surface—especially those involving potential harm to women and minors—silence, confusion, or delay only deepen the pain. Communities deserve honesty. Survivors deserve to be heard safely. And the public deserves clarity rooted in facts, not speculation.

We are calling on the leadership of the Cesar Chavez Foundation and the United Farm Workers, along with California state leaders including the Governor and relevant legislative committees, to ensure a truly independent and transparent review of these allegations. This process must be guided by professionals with no conflicts of interest and must result in findings that are shared openly with the public.

At the same time, any effort to uncover the truth must center the people who may have been harmed. That means expanding confidential, trauma-informed reporting channels, protecting those who come forward, and ensuring access to appropriate support resources.

This is not about erasing history or rushing to judgment. It is about facing difficult questions with integrity. It is about ensuring that the values of justice, dignity, and respect—so central to the farmworker movement—are upheld today.

Accountability and compassion can coexist. In fact, they must.

Sign this petition to stand for transparency, to support survivors, and to call for a fair and independent investigation that puts truth and community first.
