As a proud Gator, it's shattering to witness the secretive nature of actions unfolding at the University of Florida. Ben Sasse's appointment as president of our esteemed university was veiled in secrecy and seems to be heavily influenced by Governor DeSantis and Chair Hosseini, neither of whom are University of Florida alumni. The custodians of this beloved institution are laying paths that have the potential to dismantle the progress the University of Florida has made toward establishing itself as one of the top academic universities in the United States. The paths I speak of are paved with politically motivated spending and appointments. 

In a span of only 17 months, Ben Sasse has more than tripled the University's spending, creating high-paying remote positions for GOP allies and securing secretive consulting contracts. The University of Florida alumni, stakeholders in the integrity and reputation of our academic institution, deserve explanation. We deserve transparency. We have a right to question how our University resources are being utilized and demand accountability from the Board of Trustees.

Based on this unsettling information made public through an article published by the “Alligator,” we, the undersigned, request a detailed, independent investigation into Ben Sasse's hiring and spending practices during his tenure at the University of Florida. We beseech the Board of Trustees and other relevant authorities to meet our concerns with urgent action. We need to protect our university from being undermined by politicized practices and ensure that it continues to prioritize academic excellence and integrity above all else.
