Investigate and fix persistent foul odors in Ridge Ranch

Investigate and fix persistent foul odors in Ridge Ranch
The Issue
We moved into our new home in Ridge Ranch, Mesquite, Texas in December 2025, full of dreams and excitement. However, since our arrival, an overwhelming and foul odor has plagued not only our household but the entire community. The stench, reminiscent of rotten eggs and garbage, permeates our home and lingers throughout the area, diminishing our quality of life and making it difficult to enjoy both our indoor and outdoor spaces.
Having identified the Mesquite compost facility and the sewer wastewater treatment plant as the sources of this unbearable smell, we are reaching out to the Mesquite City Council and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for an urgent investigation and resolution of this issue. It is not just a matter of inconvenience but one of health and overall community well-being, potentially affecting property values and the environment around us.
The compost facility and the wastewater treatment plant play crucial roles in waste management, but they should not operate at the cost of residents' peace and health. We urge the City Council and TCEQ to conduct a thorough investigation into the operations of these plants and to implement effective measures to control and eliminate the odors. Possible solutions could include enhanced monitoring systems for emissions, upgrades in facility technology, and tighter regulations on waste management processes.
Reports from the community have highlighted the widespread nature of this issue, indicating that it affects many residents of Mesquite and possibly beyond. The smell is not only an olfactory nuisance but could also pose health risks, including respiratory issues. Studies have shown that exposure to foul odors, particularly those resembling hydrogen sulfide (the "rotten egg" smell), can lead to adverse health effects.
By signing this petition, you are supporting the call for immediate action from the Mesquite City Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to address and rectify this persistent problem. We need a living environment where families can breathe fresh air, enjoy their surroundings, and thrive without the continuous assault of these intrusive smells.
Together, let's advocate for a safer, healthier community. Please sign this petition to demand the necessary improvements and protect the well-being of Mesquite residents.
