Invalidate the SGM held on 15 March 2026 and declare the STS Election Results

Invalidate the SGM held on 15 March 2026 and declare the STS Election Results
The Issue
We are proposing to invalidate the SGM and declare the STS election results, Uphold Democratic Rights of Members
We request all STS members who believe in transparency and democratic governance to sign this petition and support the restoration of the democratic process within the Singapore Telugu Samajam (STS)(UEN: S75SS0056G)
We formally proposing to invalidate the Special General Meeting (SGM) conducted via Zoom webinar on 15 March 2026 and to the unilateral decisions taken affecting the STS election held on 8 February 2026.
As per the STS Constitution (12.2), an SGM can only be convened either by a decision of the Management Committee or upon a written requisition from at least 20 members. However, the Secretary has confirmed to us in writing via email that the SGM was called based on the request of the AGM Chairman. The AGM Chairman alone does not have the authority to convene an SGM. Therefore, the SGM called in this manner is unconstitutional, and the SGM held on 15 March 2026 is constitutionally null and void.
Furthermore, the SGM was conducted via Zoom webinar without proper validation of the participating members. After the AGM Chairman announced his decision regarding the election, no opportunity was given to a single members to speak, even though more than 200 members had raised their hands requesting to speak. The comment section was also disabled, preventing members from expressing their views. They controlled the SGM with pre fabricated manner.
Despite multiple requests, even the Election Committee members were not given an opportunity to speak, although the matters discussed were directly related to the election process.
Deviation from the Announced SGM Agenda - The official SGM notice clearly stated that the purpose of the meeting was to announce the outcome of the elections held on 8 February 2026. Declaring the election “null and void” was not part of the announced agenda.
The election held on 8 February 2026 involved approximately 6,045 verified members exercising their democratic voting rights. The members have every right to know the election results.
As per the STS Constitution, no single individual has the authority to unilaterally declare the election results null and void.
As per the STS Constitution, there is no provision for suspension of members. Even in disciplinary matters, prior notice and 14 days’ time must be given to respond. However, 16 members were suspended without their consent and without even an opportunity to be heard, which is a clear violation of the STS Constitution.
Nearly six months of preparation, volunteer effort, and significant members’ funds were invested to conduct the STS elections, with approximately 6,045 members exercising their democratic right to vote. The Election Committee (EC) completed the polling and counting and formally recommended that the results be declared. The AGM Chairman,Secretary & Treasurer do not have the authority to unilaterally declare the election ‘null and void’. Such action disregards the democratic mandate of the voters and wastes the time, effort, and members’ funds invested in the election process. Therefore, the election results must be declared and any procedural improvements may be recommended to the next elected committee.
We therefore Propose the following:
• The SGM held on 15 March 2026 Invalid
. The Election Commission (EC)/AGM Chairman must immediately declare the election results.
• All resolutions or decisions taken during that SGM must be treated as invalid.
• Democratic processes and members rights must be respected and restored.
Singapore Telugu Samajam is a members society. Its governance must reflect the collective will of its members, not the unilateral decisions of a few individuals.
- Sincerely
