Introduction of Mandatory Video Recording in Courtrooms

The Issue

I have to submit this petition to request the implementation of mandatory video and audio recording in all courtrooms, covering the full duration of hearings, statements, evidence presentations, and judicial reasoning. This measure is urgently needed to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity within the justice system.

My appeal is motivated not only by principle but also by personal experience. During a court process in which I sought justice, I witnessed statements and conduct that severely undermined fairness and objectivity. At one point—even when an official police report clearly stated that an individual had been a suspect in a violent incident—the judge verbally dismissed this by saying:

“For the sake of this court, let’s just say he was the victim, not the suspect.”

This was not an isolated occurrence. Throughout the process, other significant inconsistencies and irregularities occurred—moments where the record did not reflect what was actually said and decisions were seemingly influenced by subjective interpretation rather than documented evidence. Without proper audiovisual documentation, such moments remain invisible, unaccountable, and impossible to challenge.

Why Video Recording Is Necessary

Transparency:
-Video evidence ensures that the public, oversight bodies, and appellate courts have an accurate record of what actually happened in the courtroom.

Accountability:
-With recordings, judges, lawyers, prosecutors, and witnesses are held to higher standards of professionalism and conduct. Improper remarks or bias cannot simply vanish from the record.

Protection for All Parties:

-Victims gain confidence that their testimony is preserved faithfully.

-Defendants are protected from unfair treatment or misrepresentation.

-Judges and court staff are likewise protected from false accusations.

Accurate Appeals:
Written transcripts alone cannot capture tone, demeanour, interruptions, or nuances. Video provides the complete truth.

International Best Practice:
Many modern judicial systems already use courtroom recording as a standard safeguard against error and misconduct.

Proposed Measures
I respectfully request that the governing judicial authority adopt the following:

-Mandatory installation of video and audio recording systems in all courtrooms.

-Automatic recording of every court session without exception.

-Secure storage of recordings, with strict protocols preventing alteration or deletion.

-Accessible copies for parties involved, particularly when filing appeals or claims of procedural error.

-Public transparency policies, allowing certain hearings to be made public when appropriate.

The justice system must not rely solely on memory, interpretation, or selective transcription. When a person’s life, reputation, and safety depend on the courtroom, there must be no room for ambiguity or unchecked bias.

Implementing mandatory video recording is a simple, modern, and essential step toward ensuring the fairness and credibility of the judicial process.

For all these reasons, I urge every one of you to raise your voice by signing this petition and help ensure that no one ever has to face injustice in silence again. Together, we can force the system to change.
