Introduce Girls Flag Football at Georgetown High School

The Issue

Girls at our school desire to be included in the realm of flag football - an opportunity so far, only extended to boys. This situation isn't just limited to Georgetown High School, a U.S. survey reveals less than 30% of interscholastic sports teams are girls' teams. (R. Sabo, D. Veliz, 2008).

Flag football, like many other sports, encourages teamwork, improves physical fitness, and fosters respect. It is only fair that our girls get the same opportunity to be a part of such a beneficial experience.

We believe that making a girls' flag football team at Georgetown High School would send a powerful message about gender equality in sports and provide a much-needed opportunity for our girls. In addition, this move would comply with the clause in Title IX that mandates gender discrimination not to be tolerated in federally funded educational programs, including sports.

This change won't just benefit the girls who want to play flag football today; it will inspire future generations of women to break down barriers and ensure that female participation in sports continues to grow. It's high time our girls had a team of their own.

Let's usher in this change - sign this petition today! Support the creation of a Girls Flag Football team at Georgetown High School.
