I am a resident of St. Louis County and a student attending school here. Every day I face a terrifying encounter - cars speeding past me as I walk to and from school. Events are even more stressful when my little brother is with me. The lack of crosswalks in our neighborhood exposes young students like myself and my brother to potential road accidents.

This problem is not exclusive to me, but countless other students attending elementary, middle, and high schools in the County. The absence of crosswalks, combined with car drivers not strictly adhering to speed limits, increases the risk of tragic incidents. Safety measures like crosswalks are a straightforward solution to protect the hundreds of young students commuting to school on foot every day.

Addressing this issue requires intervention from someone with the authority to enforce tangible changes in our neighborhoods. Our Mayor, Tishaura Jones, is that person with power. As the Mayor, her job is to ensure that the city is a safe environment for all of its residents, including the young and vulnerable school-going population.

We firmly believe that the introduction of crosswalks in school zones would significantly reduce the risk faced by numerous students daily, contributing to a safer St. Louis County for all of us. We call on Mayor Tishaura Jones to acknowledge our concerns and take swift action to rectify this situation. Stand with us in advocating for the safety of our students. Sign this petition!
