I am writing to kair stem
petition, I respectfully request consideration of a new law, which I propose to name "Carl's Law", to establish mandatory minimum and enhanced maximum sentences specifically for crimes involving harm to children. The core elements would be:
Mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years' imprisonment for the most serious offences against children (e.g., rape of a child, penetrative sexual assault/exploitation, severe trafficking, or repeated abuse causing lifelong harm).
Maximum sentence of 90 years or more (or life imprisonment where already applicable), to reflect the gravity and potential for reoffending.
Removal or severe restriction of certain protections (e.g., no automatic application of prisoner human rights considerations that could limit isolation or rehabilitation-focused measures where reoffending risk is deemed high due to the nature of the crime against a child's basic human rights).
No eligibility for parole, early release schemes, or supportive/protective measures (such as certain privileges or leniency in custody) for offenders convicted of harming a child, unless exceptional circumstances are proven beyond doubt.
This proposed law draws from the principle that laws, rooted in moral and divine foundations to protect the innocent (particularly children), should prioritise victims over perpetrators in cases of such profound violation.
Rationale
These offences strike at the most vulnerable in society and often result in irreversible trauma. Stronger mandatory sentences would serve as a greater deterrent, reduce reoffending risks, and reaffirm society's commitment to safeguarding children above all else.
