The issue

Wollongong is a growing and diverse community, with families and individuals from a wide range of cultural and faith backgrounds who regularly visit and spend extended time at Wollongong Central. However, there is currently no dedicated space within the centre for prayer or quiet reflection.

For many people, having access to a clean, private, and respectful space for daily prayer or a moment of calm is an important part of feeling included and accommodated in public environments. This is especially meaningful for families with children, those working long hours nearby, and visitors who spend significant time at the centre.

Across Australia, many major shopping centres have already introduced multi-faith prayer and reflection spaces as part of creating more inclusive and accessible environments for their communities.

We are respectfully calling on Wollongong Central, with the support of Wollongong City Council, to consider the introduction of a small multi-faith prayer and quiet reflection space within the centre.

This would be a simple yet meaningful addition that reflects the values of inclusivity, respect, and community wellbeing in Wollongong.

We have already seen this successfully implemented locally at Wollongong Hospital, demonstrating how simple and effective these spaces can be in supporting a diverse and growing community. We would love to see our major shopping centres reflect this same level of inclusivity.

By signing this petition, you are showing your support for a more inclusive and welcoming space for everyone.

Your support will help demonstrate the level of community interest and encourage this important initiative to be considered.
